I want to show you something very special, an old French Chateau.
Throughout France there are farmhouses, old vineyard houses and castles that have never been renovated and been sitting in some families for hundreds of years like this one. The phenomenon could be from the law, which states that children get everything when their parents die, and often people leave the country and never come back. Other times a rift in the family makes it impossible to sell. Unable to sell the homes without the signatures from all the siblings, many times these beautiful Chateaux go unattended for decades. Even in our little community, there are empty village houses waiting for families to reclaim them.
Our friend Michael took us on a tour of this beautiful old Chateau where parts hadn’t been renovated or touched since the 1800’s. The monstrous property had many homes on it, an operating vineyard and beautiful grounds. Recently sold, the old owners were selling off the furnishings from this particular home, a museum really.
The chateau was full of relics and antiques, and we even bought a few souvenirs. These owners’ grandparents had lived last in this chateau. Most things were far out of our price range, and we were grateful to have a look around while my mom was visiting from Canada, giving us all a treat.
Let me show you around through photos. I hope you enjoy them.
