Capestang News –  Creating a Music Video

Goulven Gonthier- videographer, Angel-lead vocalist, Flo – guitar, Chloé -vocalist/director, Benjamin -Drums, Nikko – base and Mikey – sound; make up this team, and the vivid idea for the magic VHS tape with the classic Disney songs for another generation to enjoy except this time to a heavier beat.

The group is made up of two members from Goulamas’k; Flo and Angel plus Chloé, Ben and Nikko who play for a variety of different Languedoc groups. They are no strangers to the musician’s life and it was only a matter of time for them to come together to make a sound all their own.

The punk-rock version of classic Disney songs have a fun energy with its own catchy cool edge. After each video shoot, we find ourselves humming and singing the verses openly throughout our house! Personally I have watched each video dozens of times and never tire.

The original video they created was from The Lion King the famous song ‘I Just Can’t Wait to be King’ in French ‘Je voudrais déjà être roi’

The first video starts with Angelina finding an old VHS tape in the attic of a house and she starts to watch the film The Lion King. Magically the group comes alive around her, but she cannot see them; they try to catch her attention from the magical realm they live.

Angelina enjoyed her two days of filming with the group and it will be an experience our family will always cherish and she will never forget. My shy little seven-year-old girl felt like a star and loves the band members she was able to work beside. They gave her a bowl of candy, made her lunch and everyone was super supportive. She took instructions from the band well and had loads of laughs doing it. They were really awesome!

Angelina has a special shine for the base guitar player Nikko and they teased each other like brother and sister during the video shoot. He was very funny.

The story continues when Angelina takes the magic video to school, and her teacher catches her showing it to her friend Lou in class during a French grammar lesson. The teacher scolds her and tells her to place the VHS tape on his desk at the front of the class. Then the magic begins. The teacher magically transforms to the lead vocalist Angel and he is now in charge of the class and the song Prince Ali from Disney’s Aladdin starts to play to the children’s surprise.

As the music gets louder the class becomes wild and the humorous skit begins as the children run rampant through the classroom.

Goulven Gonthier was in charge of the videography and photos. I saw his work online and became a fan on his Facebook page long before our children ever worked with him. He has a strong eye for detail and his use of colour is remarkable. Every shot has a different feel to it, and during the first video shoot, the attic was made to look like an old movie set. You may remember Chloé as Nala’s voice in their ‘Je voudrais déjà eêtre roi ‘ recording. This time she takes on a very different role as executive producer/director who spent the most time with the children preparing them for their scenes in front of the camera.

Nikko played with the children between takes.

Photogenic Flo and his blue Mohawk is our family-friend and never lets the camera down with his energy and keen sense of humour. My kids love him and he also happens to teach Daniel guitar.

Ben is on drums and has so much energy during the shoot, he made it so much fun for the children.

Angel with dreadlocks past his waist is super gentle despite his size. He is one of the orchestrating minds behind the idea of ‘We Rock Disney’ and the music videos. His distinctive and pleasant voice has a soulful quality. He spends days editing their videos for the impressive outcome. This is his third music video (two for We Rock Disney and one for Goulamas’k called Miseria) and with the combined efforts from this group, attention to detail; they could be a household name.

They all showed such care and attention to all the children, every one felt special. During the video shoot, Chloé made sure every child had their own little part.

The children had two days of filming in Crux Elementary School and loved the experience. The retired principal of the school also joined in the fun and played the role as the schoolteacher and surprised us all with his acting abilities. Angelina, Daniel, Lou, Emma, Marie-Alice, Mallory, Chloé are all from Capestang.

I also need to thank Mr et Mme LAFFARGUE, Angel’s parents, who fed us all!

A big thank-you goes out to ‘We Rock Disney’ for making the experience so memorable for our children.
