Cap d’Agde is a seaside community; know for its nudist colony and wicked raves. It is one of the largest seaside resorts along the Mediterranean France and very popular with the young.

Forty thousand people visit the colony daily in high season. One hundred eighty businesses run in the town where people go throughout their day in the nude.

TripAdvisor has fabulous reviews on Cap d’Agde, giving accounts of the two worlds that run parallel in this popular destination.

During the day, families and couples walk around naked. There are beaches allocated just for the nudist and their family; ordinary people, who just want to be in the nude.

Next, there are adult only beaches in the day as well, where sexy activities do take place, in the open and usually with a crowd around. For families the recommendation is to stay clear.

Then there is the night life. When the sun goes down, the swingers emerge in erotic clothes and every possible fantasy can be fulfilled in one of there many clubs.

History Break: The Oltra family originally grew olives and noticed an increased amount of nude swimmers and sunbathers who camped on their land. They decided to formalize the campgrounds and eventually created the colony. In 1973 it was designated as a naturist colony.

We ended up in Cap d’Agde, the resort in the town of Agde, while visiting my friend’s niece who was taking a three month culinary course: learning about pastries, French food and wines of the region. What a fabulous way to introduce yourself to the French way of life, their traditions and their flavours. Her course ran through the winter, so the colony was pretty much deserted.

We tried to drive to the nudist colony thinking may as well have a closer look. Unfortunately it was gated off. You can access the colony by walking the beach or being part of the colony by passing through the gate and paying a daily tax. It is possible to vacation here and be naked the entire time: even when you dine, go shopping in the super market, have a coffee or have your hair done. It is a freedom that would be interesting to experience, even if you are not an exhibitionist.

Sorry no naked shots…. simply too cold!

Not sure if I could run around with my family for an entire week naked. Maybe we should save this for the pretty young people. Funny thing; all shapes, sizes and inhibitions visit the resort. You can be as daring or discrete as you want to be.

Will we return? Life is long, you never know…
